We are delighted to announce that we have secured funding for our Go Bags project! Thanks to a very generous grant from The Hobson Charity, we are now able to move forward with this life saving initiative and have been able to pack a number of Go Bags, ready to be given out.
The Go Bags project is designed to provide immediate necessities, primarily for people on release from prison with whom we have begun a relationship and would like continuing support from SWCC.
Some clients are released from prison with ongoing accommodation and good support around them, but a significant number leave with minimal support and very few possessions. Some leave with no fixed abode and find themselves as rough sleepers. Due to the current lack of affordable and suitable accommodation this is likely to become a greater issue as more people end up as street homeless. These backpacks are designed to provide some immediate basic necessities to support them as they reintegrate.
We really can’t put into words the amount of help and support this generous funding will bring to so many as they leave prison and begin to rebuild life in the community.
