Women within the prison system often face huge problems, both during their time behind bars, and after their release. They are often the main carers for children or older relatives, and their removal from the family can place tremendous strain on all members of their family.
Keeping in regular touch is vital for a mother and her children, yet the distance from the nearest women’s prison – HMP Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire – to the main towns and cities in the South West means that family visits are often very expensive and difficult to organise.
Distance from HMP Eastwood Park to:
- Exeter - 90 miles
- Barnstaple - 105 miles
- Plymouth - 130 miles
- Truro - 180 miles
Since 2012 we have been working with women in HMP Eastwood Park, helping them prepare for their release back to Cornwall, Devon or West Somerset. Our aim is to support even more women to successfully make the transition from prison back to their home areas in the South West and a life away from crime.
